Corporate Responsibility in Renewable Energy

The Energy Sector has, for a long time, been blighted by accusation of ‘irresponsible corporate practices’ as a result of a multitude of seemingly endless sins perpetrated by the major power players.

From oil spills, to damaging local environments and exploitation of poorer countries, the list goes on and on. This is something that has resulted with anyone and everyone in the Energy Sector being tarnished with this bad reputation.

We all know, the impact of great natural disasters, from Deep Water Horizon Disaster, which resulted in the greatest oil spill un U.S. waters, to the multitude of events in Peru that have resulted in a horrendous impact on The Amazon River, as discussed very well in this Guardian article from 2017.

So how can we in the industry do more to act in a responsible way? Well, the simplest way is, of course, to care about acting in such a manner, i.e. genuinely care, rather than simply pay lip service to it.

Intuitive Renewables have pledged that we will not undertake a single project without performing an extensive ‘whole chain impact assessment’ – we look at everything from who owns the land, who makes and constructs our installation equipment, as well as what the potential impact will be on local communities and the environment.

We hold a strict set of standards, identifying potential problems and acting to remove these totally, even if this hurts us financially. We believe it is impossible to work as a business trying to ‘make the world a better place’ while undertaking exploitative or polluting practices.

Quite simply, you can’t make the world a better place by just reducing carbon output or reducing the energy bill of a school if it involves exploiting manufacturing workers in a third world country. It has to be done in an ethical and well-designed manner that provides optimal and ethical solutions to all involved and impacted.

We also feel that working to undertake community- and socially-minded projects is something that will enable us to further provide an ethical basis for our business. Here, we undertake all manner of fundraising and consultancy tasks to create renewable energy installations that provide and income which, in time, provide an income for local not-for-profit and community groups.

Our first such project is based in Sheffield and our crowdfunding page can be found here:

Feel free to read about it, and if you want to support our work here, donate, as this really will make a large difference to the local community!

If you think that we could undertake a similar project for your local area, we really want to hear from you, so please get in contact with us and we can start to provide for your local community too!
